Foundation of AMIF in 1948
When it was founded in 1948 by Dr. Benjamin Ginsbourg, along with Elie Azérad, Daniel Wal, and a few other pioneers, the AMIF (Association des Médecins Israélites de France) aimed, from its inception, to remain apolitical. Among its objectives was to combat anti-Semitism, particularly in the medical field, through all means, both legal and extralegal, and to assist doctors who had been persecuted by the Nazis in recovering their practices that had been confiscated during the Occupation.
Evolution and Contemporary Missions of AMIF
Seventy-five years later, AMIF, staying true to its core mission, continues to foster connections between all Jewish doctors in France. It promotes leading medical and scientific exchanges between France and Israel and organizes medical events and conferences (Costa Rica, Czech Republic, etc.). The association also takes part in preserving the duty of remembrance (annual trips to Auschwitz, Yom Ha’Shoah ceremonies, etc.).
(For English speakers, "Yom Ha’Shoah" refers to Holocaust Remembrance Day.)
