A BINATIONAL FOUNDATION

The creation of the France-Israel Foundation, recognized as being of public interest, was conceived and initiated by the President of the French Republic, Mr. Jacques Chirac, who shared the idea in July 2005 with the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr. Ariel Sharon. The foundation aims to serve as both a crucible and a catalyst for strengthening and deepening the ties between the Israeli and French peoples across all segments of their respective civil societies.
The France-Israel Foundation involves French and Israeli actors in all its initiatives who are committed to reinforcing the friendship between the two peoples: political leaders, association leaders, professionals, business leaders, researchers, artists, and students

President Jacques CHIRAC

« Between France and Israel, there exists a unique relationship where the human dimension is essential. In this regard, one only needs to mention the significance of the Francophone presence in Israel and the fact that France is home to the third-largest Jewish community in the world. However, this relationship must now move to a new stage. While the two states engage in regular dialogue on all matters of common interest, and while economic and cultural ties continue to strengthen, there is still a lack of mutual understanding and reciprocal knowledge between the public opinions, especially among the younger generations of our two countries, which is necessary given the quality and richness of the ties established between France and Israel over the past 50 years.

It is with great satisfaction, therefore, that I welcome the upcoming launch of the Foundation. With it, the efforts of public authorities will find an extension within both societies, dispelling the stereotypes and misunderstandings that too often arise. The Foundation will support and amplify the initiatives that are already flourishing in all areas of economic, cultural, academic, and scientific life, giving tangible expression to the friendship between the two countries.»
