Who We Are

The France-Israel Foundation acts as a bridge between cultures, generations, and disciplines by supporting concrete projects in the fields of education, culture, science, economy, and social affairs.

Our Vision

Born from a meeting in 2005 between French President Jacques Chirac and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and recognized as a public-interest foundation, the France-Israel Foundation aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between France and Israel by fostering mutual understanding, enriched intercultural dialogue, and fruitful collaborations in the economic, scientific, educational, cultural, and social fields.

Statement by the President of the French Republic,
November 24, 2005.

“Between France and Israel exists a unique relationship in which the human dimension is essential. One only needs to recall the importance of the French-speaking presence in Israel, and that of the Jewish community in France — the third largest in the world.

But this relationship must now take a new step forward. While the two States maintain regular dialogue on all matters of common interest, and while economic and cultural ties continue to grow stronger, there still lacks, between our public opinions — and especially the younger generations — the reciprocal knowledge and mutual understanding that the quality and depth of the ties built over more than 50 years between France and Israel call for.

It is therefore with great satisfaction that I welcome the forthcoming launch of the Foundation. With it, the action of public authorities will find an extension within both societies, helping to dispel the stereotypes and misunderstandings that too often take root.

It will support and amplify the many initiatives already flourishing across the economic, cultural, academic, and scientific spheres, giving life to the friendship between our two countries.”
